We are Boyne City Blaze

Boyne City Blaze provides Boyne City High School students a guided, hands-on opportunity to explore various applications of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). By partnering with community mentors, BC Blaze fosters a variety of valuable life skills such as innovation, self-confidence, leadership, inspiration, and communication: the same skills needed to become the creative, scientific, and technological leaders of the future.

A History of Blaze

Boyne City Blaze was founded in 2011, growing from 6 to 21 team members. The team has had annual successes in both competitions and awards, winning 2 District Competitions, 5 District Engineering Inspiration Awards, 4 District Chairman's Awards, 4 Safety Awards, 1 Gracious Professionalism Award, 1 Autonomous Award and 4 Entrepreneurship Awards. In 2016 Boyne City Blaze even made it to Worlds. In 2022, Boyne City Blaze was captain of the Sixth Alliance at FIRST in Michigan State Championship: Ford Division, a first in Boyne City Blaze history.

More about us

  • Promoting STEAM Education: Boyne City Blaze inspires local youth by hosting a STEAM day for local Girl Scouts, a Full STEAM Ahead day for 5th graders, and volunteers with the Boyne District Library's STEAM activities.

  • Community Involvement: Boyne City Blaze participates in school and public presentations such as "Stroll the Streets," the Boyne Buisness Expo, school athletic events, the Northern Lakes Economic Association, the local 4th of July parade, amd many others.

  • Team Strengths: BC Blaze strives for excellence in Gracious Professionalism, safety, and community involvement. The team has a supportive school and community; and talented mentors and students. These relationships allow for access to valuable resources and equipment.

  • Most Significant Challenge Overcome: Because of limited financial resources, BC Blaze has had to prioritize purchases. To overcome this deficit, the team continues to strengthen sponsor relationships and is developing new fundraising strategies; the team will end the year financially secure.

  • Team Effort Promoting FIRST: Within our school, BC Blaze has promoted FIRST by partnering with the Business, Wood Shop, Machine Tool, Visual Imaging, and STEAM classes. Blaze also promotes FIRST by sponsoring a Kick-Off event, supporting other teams, and informing our community.
